Remove Headache Quickly
With the advice of the best neurologists in our country, we have developed this decalogue to remove the headache quickly. It is simple and very effective.
One in three Spaniards suffers from headache and according to Dr. Pozo Rosich, coordinator of the Headache Study Group of the Spanish Society of Neurology, “it is enough in our hand to combat this pain. To do this, whatever type of headache you suffer, we have developed this simple but effective decalogue to remove the headache that will help you find quick relief when you suffer a crisis.
Preventive treatment is recommended for pain.
1- Drink water. Dehydration can trigger a headache. Tip: Always carry a small bottle of water with you and if you sweat a lot, use isotonic drinks that also provide electrolytes, the lack of which can also trigger a crisis.
2- Lie down in a room with little light and no noise. Place cold cloths over the affected area and take a deep breath. You may feel relief in 15-20 minutes.
3- Stretch. According to Doctor Manuel Lara, neurologist of the Headache Unit of the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, “they can be very useful due to the influence of muscle tension in the pericranial area on the appearance of tension headache”. Massages can also help. Gently self-massage the neck, eyes, temples and base of the nose. To make it more effective and relaxing, you can use a few drops of lavender or peppermint oil.
4- Acetaminophen or ibuprofen. If it’s a tension headache, you can use either one or the other or acetylsalicylic acid. What if it’s a migraine? Mild migraines usually respond to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, naproxen, dexketoprofen. But when your headaches are frequent and severe, it should be the family doctor or neurologist who decides which medication to take.
HOW TO REMOVE THE HEADACHE
5- Do not wait. Start taking the medication as soon as the pain is present, do not give him time to move forward. If, after taking the medication, the pain subsides but has not completely disappeared, repeat the dose respecting the time indicated in the leaflet.
6- Have a cup of coffee. Consuming it just when the pain begins can relieve it by acting as a vasoconstrictor and help the absorption of analgesics. However, as a general rule, it should not be abused. Wear sunglasses. “Exposure to the sun for many hours can cause headaches and migraines,”

8- Take vitamin B2 or magnesium. In some cases, the doctor may provide vitamin B2 or magnesium supplements, “although the improvement is very partial,” says Dr. Pozo Rosich.
9- Infusion of feverfew. Within phytotherapy, feverfew is recommended because of its sedative power, which seems to reduce the intensity and frequency of headache, an effect supported by a study published in the journal Cephalalgia. If you want to try it, consult your doctor, as it is not compatible with certain types of medication, such as anticoagulants.
10- Rest and take it easy. “Stress is usually one of the main triggers of migraine attacks and is the origin of tension headache,” explains Dr. Lara. Discover here other causes of headache, some of them surprising.
AND IF NOTHING WORKS
¿Do you have “rescue” medication? If your headaches are frequent and tend to be very intense, so that after taking the indicated medication and repeating the dose they have not given up, discuss with the doctor the need to have other drugs to resort to.
Evaluate a preventive treatment. It is advisable in those cases in which the frequency of the crises, their duration or the degree of incapacity they cause in the patient (in his personal, family, social or professional life) so indicate.
